So what’s keyword density all about?

August 26th, 2007

A while back in regards to SEO, for a time, webmasters were using a technique referred to as keyword stuffing. What they would actually do was cram a certain keyword or phrase into thier web page to such a degree that it would indeed help and give them a better search engine ranking. But those days are indeed gone. It didn’t take all that long for the search engines to figure this out and indeed, they did change their algorithms accordingly.

Keyword density is a measure of the number of times your
keyword appears on a page expressed as a percentage of the total
wordcount of that page. For example, if your page has 100 words, and
your
keyword phrase appears 5 times, its density is 5%. As to what a proper density should be there is still a little debate. It is often thought that a keyword density of 1 to 3 percent is more than enough.
