Basics Of Getting Indexed in the Search Engines

May 31st, 2007

Google is the leading search engine and the fight for top positions is extremely competitive. Many people try to use tricks in their desperate fight to get to the top. Still others try to make things way too complicated and end up getting nowhere. However this does not have to be. The best way to get a good position in Google is to do it their way.

Despite the 100s of algorithms that make up the Google machine Google’s rules are not so hard to understand. Just be aware that their customers (the surfers) are your visitors and potential customers. What is good for Google’s customers is also good for your visitors. Now isn’t this much simpler than you thought?

Now there is no absolute guarantee that you will get to the top position using these techniques but you can very likely get to the top 10 or at least the 1st page of the Google search engine. Here are some points that will weigh heavily with Google and increase your Page Rank:

Getting The Most Out Of Article Marketing

May 30th, 2007

As you know, having fresh content on your website and blog is key when it comes to getting search engine traffic. Many website owners and bloggers visit article reprint directories on a daily basis, in search of articles to use on their sites. When you submit an article to a directory, you are allowing other website owners and bloggers permission to add your article to their site – for free. However, they need to include an “about the author” box at the end of the article. You get to write what you want included in that box, so include a bit of information about the product or service you offer and include links to your site.

When the website owner or blogger puts your article up on the web, all of their readers will see your biography information and the links to your website. Your article could end up on hundreds or thousands of websites, and quite possibly, millions of people could end up reading it! Who knows how many people could click on your link?

It is very easy to find these reprint directories on the web. Just do a Google search on “free reprint article directories” and many listings will pop up. Some are highly targeted and feature only articles health articles; or only articles about food; and other directories are more general. You can submit your article to more than one directory, and there are even some software packages that will submit the articles for you.

Google Base Product Feed Requirements

May 22nd, 2007

Google released new feed requirements in early February 2007 for listing products onto “Froogle”, or now “Google Base.”

Most of the attributes that Google wants merchants to have in their product listings are things that you should already be using in your file feed as a best practice. There were a couple of fields that I did not have in my feed (because they were pretty obvious to my customers/product set and not really necessary), but it only took me 5 minutes to update my template.

So, what should you put in each of these required fields?

  • brand - Brand name or manufacturer of the item. (Sony, Apple, Prada, etc.)
  • condition - new, used, refurbished
  • description - Use good sales copy here to describe your item in a keyword rich way.
  • expiration_date - expiration date for the item. Max live time of 31 days. Ex: 2007-02-03
  • id - Unique internal ID code. Can not change once a product is created. (I use my internal SKU for this.)
  • image_link - Link to the product image. Google suggests linking to a 400×400 image, though you can use smaller.
  • link - Link to the product page. If your shopping cart supports it, include a tracking code so you can see which orders come from Google Base vs other areas.
  • price - product price
  • product_type - There are a LOT of product types. If you sell mainly in one category, just choose the best one. Otherwise go through and pick the best product_type for each item. You can view a full list of Google’s Product Types.
  • title - Name or title of product. Max 80 characters. This is your product headline. Think of it like you would the title tag on your product page.

    Best Search Engine Optimization
    By James Krawder

The importance of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) has increased a lot in the recent years. There is one obvious reason behind this importance of SEO. With the popularity of internet increasing manifolds, the number of websites being created is increasing at a furious pace and as a result it is becoming increasingly difficult for any site to be visible to net surfers.

Even if you sell quality products, you won’t be able to achieve much online if you don’t pay attention to SEO. After all who has the patience to check to the nth page of the search engine results to have a look at your site? You need to be in the top few pages of the search engine results.

Start with the correct domain name, a domain name that is relevant to your business. It would automatically improve your search engine rankings. Next you would need quality content rich in keywords. These keywords would help search engines find your website. Also pay attention to website design. A better customized website attracts more links to it. Keep in mind the importance of Meta Tags and other similar tags.

But always remember one thing. The most important factor would always be content. There are many who think keyword stuffing would do the trick but in the long run it actually hurts. You need to have quality content including keywords that must be useful to the readers. That would make them repeatedly visit your site giving you the opportunity to sell your products and services.
